Peter A. Baum
Peter A. Baum, our favorite Marfan, born May 27, 1964, passed on to the "Mothership" Monday, Oct. 3, 2016. Crazy Pete, PBO, Uncle Pete,PP…... he was known and loved by so many people. He was certainly unforgettable; even to those who met him only once. Pete was his own person; a tinkerer and creator who liked to ride fast, laugh loud, and color outside the lines. He lived life his way. Pete worked for Capital City Paving, GMI, and had his own business, Capital Seal Coating. He was a hard worker and gave 100% to every project. Pete was diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome in 2005. This would have devastated many people, but Pete owned his disease and constantly conquered its hold on him. He found the positive of being a 'Martian' and even when in pain, loved the DART helicopter rides. More than once he was alert enough to ask them to make another loop around, before landing. Always defying the odds, he was determined his illness would not hold him back, nor define him. You couldn't hold Pete down, even when hooked up to an IV and medicated. Pete would love you one day and stop talking to you the next, but was always there when someone needed him. He was self-proclaimed as opinionated, stubborn and couldn't be bothered with 'ignorance,' but he always tried to put himself in other people's shoes. He had an insatiable appetite for learning new things. He would spend hours researching and discussing his newest interests. He felt he would have been an even bigger force to reckon with if he'd had a formal education. Peter was happiest with friends, shooting at the range (the clatter of the AK); playing with big equipment; road racing (Manchester Classic); kicking butt and taking away trophies at Loudon International (Grateful Sleds Race Team); he loved live music; comedy (Ron White and Carlos Mencia); Barnstormers Theatre; Conway Trains (esp. the Lafayette Dinner Train); board games; and riding fast in his Corvette with the windows down and his 'flaxen' blond hair blowing in the breeze. While Peter has boarded his "Mothership", he most certainly has his dog (Lighthouse) by his side, a cigar in one hand and a "fireball" in the other, and is planning his next adventure. He will always have a place in our hearts, never to be forgotten. "Marfans' Come in Piece(s)." He is now at peace. Live Each Day … https://youtu.be/lrXIQQ8PeRs Pete was predeceased by his father, Robert Baum. Survivors include his mother, Geneva Baum. Siblings, Wahnita Pelillo, Mark Baum, Christina Frary and her husband, Michael, Geana Baum, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, and beloved friends. A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 12 to 4 p.m. at Alan's of Boscawen.
