In memory of
Persis Martha Chapple
Persis was born February 16, 1930, and raised in Billings, Montana. Wonderfully social, she always introduced herself to friends and strangers as from Montana. She died February 6 in the UCD Medical Center. Persis is survived by her former husband Robert Donaldson and two of her children, Cherie Anderson and Karin Caves. Her other children, Michael Anderson and Lee Ann Adams, are both deceased. She was a devoted and loving mother who inspired them all to live life to the fullest. She is also survived by her five grandchildren whom she adored: Morgan Ramsey, Jeffrey Caves, Max Anderson, Lucas Anderson, and Jen LaVea. Earning a BA and MA at CSUS qualified her to become a Speech Pathologist in the Grant Unified School District. She had a distinguished career enabling numerous handicapped children to experience a fruitful life. For a decade in the late 20th century, she escorted, as a docent, children and adults around the Crocker Museum enhancing their appreciation of a treasure of Fine Arts. A significant number of colleagues became fast friends, particularly Klea Dole. Persis and Robert met 45 years ago on the deck of the partially sunk Delta King. That romantic beginning characterized their lives. As academics, they had the opportunity to travel extensively, occasionally, over two months at a time. Destinations included Western Europe, East Asia, Australia and New York City. Australia became the site for Persis' favorite confidante, older brother Alex Chapple, to realize his ambition to become a rancher, acquiring about 20,000 head of cattle before he sold it. Persis was one of the few family members to visit his Shangri-la. Our dearly beloved Persis blessed family and friends with her charm, beauty and love. Most of all she will be missed for her wild streak of adventure and love of the arts. She rafted the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, kayaked the American River, snorkeled in the Galapagos Islands and regularly attended the San Francisco Opera. Those who wish to donate in her memory are encouraged to send your gift to her favorite charity Planned Parenthood, 201 29th Street, Sacramento, 95816.
