Percy Orion Pickering Jr.
Percy Orion Pickering Jr Feb. 02, 1924 - Oct. 07, 2016 Hanford It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Percy "Bud" Orion Pickering, Jr., at the age of 92. Bud was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Endicott, N.Y., and passed peacefully on Oct. 7, 2016, in Hanford, Calif. He loved life, his family and his dogs; and he will be greatly missed. Bud graduated from Union Endicott High School in 1942 and attended Cornell University, which led to his education in artificial insemination of cattle. He was drafted by the Army in December 1943 and served during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1946. On March 12, 1949, Bud married Margaret Brinnington. They were married for 36 years until she passed away on December 23, 1985. They had three children: Mark, Heather and Bruce. In 1952, they moved from New York to Elk Grove, Calif., to pursue his career in cattle breeding. In 1954, they moved to Visalia, Calif., where they lived until moving to Northern California in 1978. Bud had many different careers throughout his life, including cattle breeding, agricultural chemical sales, real estate sales and construction. The business adventure he enjoyed the most was Visalia Cycle Center, which he started in 1969 and sold in 1974. He sold Suzuki, Norton and any other motorcycles he thought would sell. During that time he also ran for Visalia City Council, but wasn't elected. In his spare time, he enjoyed having get-togethers with his friends and family, fishing, bottle-collecting, gold-panning, exploring, reading and learning, among many other hobbies. He also cherished his dogs, Pooter, Pooter 2 and Kelly; and enjoyed spending time at dog parks. After his wife passed, Bud lived in Smith River, Calif., eventually moved to Hanford to be near his children and spent the remainder of his years in Visalia and Hanford. Bud is predeceased by his wife, Marge; his infant son Mark; and his parents, Percy and Helen. He leaves behind his daughter, Heather (Clyde) Barnhart; his son Bruce, (Christine); granddaughter Brianna (Angie); twin grandsons, Mark and Luke; his older sister, Loraine Williams; and his two younger sisters, Donna (Larry) Harney and Judy (Wayne) Willis. Arrangements are under the direction of Whitehurst-McNamara Funeral Service in Hanford. Per Bud's wishes, no services will be held.
