Oct. 8, 1928 - Feb. 14, 2017 Pelagia (Peggy) LePage passed away Tuesday in a local hospital following a short illness. The daughter of Greek immigrants Michael Varte and Athena Atsalas Varte, Peggy was born in Passaic, NJ, grew up in San Francisco, and moved to Benicia in 1968. Peggy studied hard to realize her dream of admittance to Stanford University and ultimately attended Lone Mountain College for Women in San Francisco. She worked as a medical secretary for UCSF before starting a career in the fashion industry, where she worked for over 40 years at local department stores including Wilson & Wilson in Benicia, Richard's Rags and Levee's Department Store in Vallejo. Peggy was a member of Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, where she was a member of the Philoptokos Society, and The Lilac Branch Hospital Guild. She was also active in the American Cancer Society and the 20-30ettes Club. Peggy enjoyed knitting and traveling and was fortunate enough to travel extensively during her life. She was extremely devoted to her family both in the U.S. and in Greece. Children, whether her own or others, always held a special place in her heart. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her much joy and she loved nothing more than spending time with them. Peggy is survived by her children, Karrie (George) Hepworth, Mike (Gayle) Ioakimedes, Georgia Ioakimedes, and George (Christine) Ioakimedes; her sister, Daisy Fernando; her grandchildren, Elliott Hepworth, Anna, Nikki, and Zack (Carly) Ioakimedes, Jason Young, Sara (Justin) Allen, Amanda Young, Megan Young, and Athena and George Ioakimedes; her great grandchildren, Zoe, Raegan and Lainey Young, Gia Bishop and Harmony Allen; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph LePage in 2008, and her grandson Michael Adam Young in 1979. Trisagion services followed by funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1224 Alabama St. Burial will be private. Family prefers donations to Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church.
