Paul Richard Soucy January 10, 1935 - January 10, 2017 Myrtle Beach Paul Richard Soucy died at home on his 82nd birthday, Jan. 10, 2017 following a brave battle with cancer. Mr. Soucy was born in Hyannis, Mass., a son of the late Alcibiade and Almena Rogers Soucy. He enlisted in the US Air Force where he proudly served his country for exactly 22 yrs. 3 mos. and 19 days. He was a proud veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. Following his retirement from Tactical Hq. at Langley AFB, VA, he became a Senior Field Service Representative for the GE Aircraft Engine Division where he continued his lifelong love of Aeronautics. He retired after 20 years with GE in 1990 following his last assignment at Shaw AFB in Sumter, SC. He was a member of St. James Catholic Parish in Conway where he was active in the Knights of Columbus, Council 7531 4th Degree. He was a member of the GE Elfun Society, and past Commander of the Long Bay Power Sq. Boating Association where he enjoyed many years of boating, traveling the waters and making wonderful friendships. He was also an avid reader and spent many hours enjoying his books. The Soucy's have been blessed with many friends throughout Paul's career. In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Robert Soucy and one sister Alice Peters. Surviving are: his beloved wife, Mary M. Soucy of Myrtle Beach; daughter, Debra Soucy Commander of Myrtle Beach, son, Paul R. "Rick" Soucy, Jr. (Susan) of Conway; daughter, Maria Whisenhunt of Dallas, Texas;; seven grandchildren, April Smith, Jared Soucy (Ashley), Caitlyn Cooper (Daniel), Brittany Sedillo (Matthew), Madeline Soucy, Kristen Whisenhunt, and Jacob Whisenhunt; three great grandchildren, Georgia Hope Glenn, Mason Christopher Soucy, and Oliver Chase Cooper; two sisters, Joan Newton of Florida and Carol Drinkwater of Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass in his honor will be said at 10:00 AM Saturday at St. James Catholic Church. Burial, with full military honors will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends at St. James Catholic Church from 9:00 until 10:00 AM Saturday.
