Paul Vincent Riedl
Paul Vincent Riedl April 25, 1926 - April 11, 2017 Keizer - Paul Vincent Riedl, passed away at home with family by his side on April 11, 2017. Paul was born in Portland, Oregon to Vincent and Anna Riedl, raised with his siblings Margaret, Francis, Alfred, and Agnes in their Milwaukie home. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1944 and enlisted in the Navy to serve in the Pacific during WW II as Seaman 1st Class. After he completed his military service, he attended Gonzaga University obtaining a degree in Civil Engineering. Paul loved to sing and was a member of the Gonzaga University Men's Glee Club. While attending college he met the love of his life, Jan. They married September 2, 1950 and started their family while Paul completed his degree. Paul worked for the US Department of Transportation as an Inspecting Engineer for over 33 years. He oversaw construction of large sections of I-5 and many road projects throughout Oregon. Paul and Jan eventually moved to Keizer where they built their present family home. He could usually be found working in the yard and garden, trimming roses or scratching vegetable beds. Paul loved the outdoors, spending family vacations camping and RV'ing throughout the Northwest. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons, clamming and deep sea fishing. His faith and music were extremely important to him. He was a long time member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish Choir, and among various activities was active in the Worship Commission, Boy Scouts, and Religious Education. Paul is survived by his wife Jan of 66 years, sons Steve, John, (Rebecca), Jim, (Debbie), daughters Jane, (Dave), and Kathy. Grandchildren Chris, (Akiyo), Janell, Julie, (Keith), Amanda, Dustin and great-grandchildren Anika, Luke and Sage. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 21 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1010 Columbia Street N.E. Salem Oregon 97301. Rosary and viewing precede the Mass at 10:20 am. Donations may be made to St Vincent de Paul Church Music Ministry, in Paul's name. Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
