Paul F. Johnson Born: May 30, 1924 Died: October 15, 2016 Paul F. Johnson, 91, of Sycamore died Saturday, October 15, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 30, 1924, in the village of Carney in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, he was the son of Gustaf Adolph and Edith Johnson. He lived on a farm for the first 18 years of his life, and graduated from Stephenson High School, Stephenson, Michigan in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War 11 from August 1944 to June 1946. His basic training took place at Great lakes Naval Training Station in Illinois. After basic training his tour of duty was in the Atlantic Ocean from Iceland to Trinidad and ports in between. They delivered troops and supplies to Army & Naval bases. Upon returning home from the Navy, he enrolled at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN, graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He then moved to the Chicago area. It was there that he met his future wife, Jeanne Stoeffler. They were married September 14, 1951 in Buena Memorial Presbyterian Church in Chicago. He and his family moved to Sycamore in 1967where he became employed by Northern Illinois University. Over the years, he worked for Arthur Andersen and Company, Electro-Motive Division of General Motors in LaGrange, Illinois, and Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. He worked for NIU for 19 years in the Division of Business Affairs where he held positions of Chief Accountant, Assistant Controller, and Acting Controller before retiring in 1986. He was an active member of Sycamore United Methodist Church since 1967, where he served on various committees over the years. Most often the Finance Committee. His favorite volunteer job was Hope Haven, where he was treasurer for 17 years and served on the Board of Directors for 24 years. He always enjoyed participating in various sports and card games, and was a fan of the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bears, and NIU Huskies. His family was his pride and joy. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne of Sycamore; one son, Bruce (Deborah) Johnson of Rochelle; two daughters, Nancy (Andrew) Pitsch of Sterling and Brenda (Brian) Henke of Clare; his grandchildren, Ethan (Amy) Pitsch, Victoria (Andy) Nuetzel, Nate (Kristen) Lienau, Whitney (Brandon) Keilman, Richard Henke, Matthew Henke, Briana Henke, Ken (Shelly) Johnson, Kelly (Jeff) Newman, Kristina (Tom) Johnson, Kevin Johnson and Amy (Paul) Purtell; 14 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Johnson; sisters, Lois Sponberg, and Alice Wolf; his parents; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Pitsch. His visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Sycamore United Methodist Church and from 9:30 AM until the time of service on Wednesday at the Church. His funeral service will be on Wednesday, October 19 at 10:30 AM at the Sycamore United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson Ave., Sycamore, with Rev. Harlene Harden officiating. Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery.
