Prof. Paul R. Chagnon Ph.D.
SOUTH BEND, IN - Prof. Emeritus at the University of Notre Dame, Paul R. Chagnon, Ph.D., 86, died Mar. 22, 2016. Born Nov. 11, 1929 to Ovid E. and Delmerise (Beaudet) Chagnon. Siblings: Marguerite (Alfred) Donais, Charlotte P. Chagnon, Constance (Anthony) Ricci and Charles W. Chagnon. Surviving: sister - in - law, Phyllis Chagnon of Concord, MA, nieces & nephews. He taught physics and conducted research in nuclear physics. Authored numerous articles. Advised many grad students, been honored annually with a Service Award in his name. B.S. Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA, Doctorate at Johns Hopkins University. Paul taught at the University of Michigan, Northwestern University and Boston University prior to finding his true home at UND. Paul was a member of the American Physical Society and the American Association of Physics Teachers. In his retirement years, he volunteered with the AARP Tax-Aide program and Real Services, delivering Meals on Wheels. Paul enjoyed: classical music, tending his gardens, amateur radio, restored and collected old radios. Funeral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, IN, was March 30.
