Patrick E. McCleary Des Moines Patrick E. McCleary, of Des Moines passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 11, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. Pat, 61 was born to Laurence F. and Lorraine G. (McDonald) McCleary and was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. He graduated from Saydel High School in 1973 and started a career as a carpenter. In 1983 Pat went to work for ABC Electric as an apprentice, journeyman, and finally a wireman and belonging to IBEW Local 347. He suffered a stroke in 1999 and after rehab he worked part-time at the West Lakes Hy-Vee as a floral driver for 10 years. Pat loved animals, especially his dog Duke and horse Molly when he was young. In his thirties he took vacations horseback riding and camping in the Colorado Mountains. He had a lifelong love of fishing and especially enjoyed his trip to Canada with his Dad and Uncle Fred with stories of the big one that got away. He loved the Hawkeyes but his passion was being a devoted Chicago Cubs fan and was over the moon when they won the 2016 World Series. Pat was a loyal friend to all who knew him. He was also a proud owner of three Harley Davidson's over the years. He is survived by his sisters, Grace (Doug) Meyer and Marilyn (Rusty) Cook; brothers, Mike (Marsha) McCleary, Dan (Cindy) McCleary, and Tom (Mary Jo) McCleary; nephews and nieces, Jonathan Meyer, Wesley Meyer, Tim (Michelle) McCleary, Lauren (David Herbold) McCleary, Joseph (Theresa) Wentland, Isaac McCleary, Lydia McCleary, and four great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Visitation with the family will be at Iles Grandview Park Chapel, Sunday January 15, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. with prayer service and sharing of memories at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Monday January 16, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Ave, Des Moines. Interment will be held at Glendale Cemetery. Memorials will help maintain the Union Labor Park on Morningside Drive. Pat was on the initial committee of the Park Foundation to start the construction of this project.
