In memory of
Patricia Pat' Barton January 15, 1925 - October 9, 2016 San Diego Patricia Barton, died on October 9, 2016 at the age of 91. She was born the only daughter of Joseph and Matilda Dietzler Toutant. Pat was very proud of her small town Wisconsin roots. With a sparkle in her eye she always added, "Cadott, the spot that God forgot." Following graduation from Catholic school, she attended both Milwaukee Downer College and the University of Minnesota in St. Paul. During a time in history where the majority of young women married, Pat was excited to embark on a career combining her passions for crafting and caring for others: Occupational Therapy.Pat took her OT degree, along with her independent spirit, and set off to blaze her trail. Following years of contract jobs from West Virginia to Iowa, Pat accepted a job at San Diego Children's Hospital while on vacation in 1952. The last sixteen years of her career were spent working at San Diego County Mental Health. In her 40's, to Pat's delight and surprise, she found love and marriage with Leo Barton. They lived "Happily Ever After" for over 30 years in Mission Hills. They spent many of their retirement years "camping" in their Airstream motorhome. Poodles "Corky, Cork and Danny" were the loves of their lives.Pat's entire life was spent volunteering for non-profits with a philanthropic mission, beginning in Cadott as a Girl Scout (selling cookies they baked themselves!) and ending in 2014 as President of the San Diego Woman's Club.A great party was the culmination of everything Pat loved most: Music, food, wine, her hand-crafted decorations, friends and family. Her 90th birthday celebration was her last big "hoorah." Pat is survived by her nieces Edie (Randy) Wayne, Ann Marie (Mark) Gmach, Mickie Toutant, and Donnell Barton, nephews Steve (Nina) Toutant, and Patrick (Kerry) Toutant. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her brothers Lloyd (Kay) Toutant and Steve (Nona) Toutant.Viewing will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at St. Vincent Catholic Church, 4080 Hawk St., San Diego, CA 92103, followed by a Funeral Mass at 12 noon.
