It is with great sadness that our family shares the news today that our beloved, Patricia Barrows, longtime resident of Deerfield, Illinois, passed away early in the morning, Thursday, April 13, 2017, in her Libertyville home with loved ones near. She was many things to the many people who were lucky enough to have crossed paths with her throughout her full and giving life: cherished mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt and sister. Pat was born in Portland, Connecticut on December 6, 1940. She settled in Deerfield, Illinois, where she was a career geriatric nurse who helped to rehabilitate the sick and sooth the dying. Pat attended the Nurse Practitioner program at Rush North Shore, and was in one of the first graduating classes of Nurse Practitioners in the Chicagoland area in 1975. Pat traveled internationally to speak as an expert in dementia and petitioned the state for the first on-site dialysis unit in a long term care facility. Pat was an incredible role model for her two daughters, two granddaughters, and an unending list of nurses and healthcare workers she came into contact with. She was a welcoming host to numerous wayward friends and co-workers with no place to celebrate holidays. Pat impacted countless lives throughout the years. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name. Please make check out to Chicago Botanic Gardens with Patricia Barrows in the memo, and send them to Dale Jones, 8317 Kildare Avenue, Skokie, IL 60076. We will be collecting donations through the end of June, and creating a memorial with her name on either a bench, garden or tree. She loved it there!
