Pat Thomey Patricia Bennett Thomey passed away January 21, 2017. She was born April 9, 1922 in Pasadena, California. She grew up in San Diego, and attended San Diego State College. She met fellow student and aspiring journalist Tedd Thomey there in 1940, when he asked her to pose for a picture for the local newspaper. Pat graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1943 with a triple major in Anthropology, Geography and Economics. In December of that year she travelled by troop train to Virginia to marry Tedd, who was in Marine Corps officers training in Quantico. Pat worked in libraries, the Post Office, and in wartime as a statistical clerk for the U.S. Navy. When Tedd returned from overseas, they lived in San Francisco, then Leucadia, before settling in Long Beach in 1948. Pat was Tedd's editorial assistant throughout his long and successful writing career, and worked for the Press-Telegram for 17 years. Tedd frequently credited her for his success. Pat loved traveling. She and Tedd saw much of the world in their 65 years of marriage. She also enjoyed sewing and genealogical research. She was a lover of animals, especially cats. She was an avid tennis player for over 50 years, then took up walking. She logged two miles almost every day until back trouble slowed her down in her early nineties. Pat will be remembered fondly for her intelligence and wit, her warmth and thoughtfulness, and her resilience and positive attitude. She is survived by her daughter Juliet "Jill" Ford, son-in-law Danny Ford, two nieces and three nephews. A memorial service will be held February 18, 2017 at 5:00 pm at Forest Lawn in Cypress.
