Orpha L. Miller Waynesboro Orpha L. (Nethkin) Miller, 96, passed away Wednesday morning, October 12, 2016. She was the eldest daughter of the late Errett E. and Esther M. (Gibbons) Nethkin. Born November 22, 1919, near East Waterford Perry County, she graduated from the former Dry Run High School in 1939. She married W. Curtis Miller on May 11, 1940 at the family home in a lawn ceremony. They lived at various locations in the Waynesboro area. Mr. Miller passed away on July 14, 1997. Orpha was a member of Otterbein Church, Waynesboro. As an active member, she was past secretary/treasurer of the Helping Hand Sunday School Class, member of the Ladies Aide, organized bus trips, and served on the funeral lunch committee. Orpha worked outside the home as a clerk at Allen's Shoe Store in Hagerstown, MD and later at Singer Sewing Center in Hagerstown. She then worked for 5 years at the Christian Book Store in Waynesboro, retiring in 1980. She is survived by three children, Gary E. Miller and his wife, Janice of Waynesboro, Connie E. Hanold and her husband, Marcus of Orrtanna, and Beverly M. Long and her husband, Dennis of Smithsburg, MD; her grandchildren, Gregory Miller of Waynesboro, Angela Yocom of Lafayette Hill, Susan Knight of Plymouth, MI, Erik Miller of Waynesboro, Kristen Price of Bethesda, MD, Timothy Hanold of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY, Michael Long of Boonsboro, MD, Christopher Long of Boonsboro, MD, and Nathan Long of Hagerstown, MD; her great-grandchildren, Kylie Knight, Alyssa Knight, Gavin Miller, Megan Miller, Chase Yocum, Kate Yocum, Cora Miller, Emme Price, Naomi Carroll, Morgan Carroll, Jacob Long, Keegan Long, Reilly Long, Tobin Long, Macallister Long, and Delaney Mae Long; her great-great-granddaughter, Neriah Bagent; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Nethkin; and one sister, Florence Briggs. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 14, 2016, in Otterbein Church, 801 Park St., Waynesboro, with Rev. Mike Newman officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. There will be no public viewing, however, the family will receive friends one hour prior to the services Friday morning in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Otterbein Church, 801 Park St., Waynesboro, PA 17268. Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, is handling the arrangements.
