Odette Teel Clive Odette Goodman Teel, 89, died on February 11, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was born December 15, 1927, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Abigail and Herald Goodman. She had wonderful childhood memories of traveling the country with her brother, mother, and father, who was a performer. In 1950, she wed Ken Teel, whom she met at Washington University in St. Louis. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage before he passed away in October, 2016. Odette and Ken lived most of their married life in Long Beach, CA. While raising their sons, she returned to college earning a BA in English from California State University-Long Beach. Her career included positions as the Director of Los Altos United Church Preschool and as a teacher of embroidery and textile art classes. Her love of quilting was well known to friends, family and anyone who met her. She did extensive research on bicentennial quilts which is held in the archives of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Three humorous Sunbonnet Sue quilts, coordinated by Odette, are located at the International Quilt Study Center and Museum, Lincoln, NE. Odette and Ken moved to Clive in 2008 and she enjoyed 8 wonderful years making friends at Walnut Ridge Retirement Community. Most recently, Odette resided at Senior Suites of Urbandale. Her family would like to thank both communities for their loving care. She is survived by sons Harry (Karen) of Urbandale, IA and Bruce (Nancy) of Mission Viejo, CA; two grandchildren, Zack and Amanda; and one great grandson, Talan. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Walnut Ridge Retirement Community in Clive. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of choice.
