Norwood L. Fritts
NORWOOD L. FRITTS VALPARAISO, IN Norwood L. Fritts, 88 of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017. He was born January 10, 1928 in Tahleqah, OK, to Henry A. and Gretchen K. (Calico) Fritts. On September 26, 1953, he married Betty J. Keeter. After serving in the Merchant Marines, Norwood joined the United States Army. He served in Germany during the Korean Conflict in the Constabulary Unit, after which he served as a tank commander/ instructor. He was honorably discharged after four years. Norwood located to Valparaiso, IN where he began his career in law enforcement. He retired as Assistant Chief of Police after serving 32 years on the Valparaiso Police Department. Norwood is survived by: wife Betty; children Deborah Sue Butterfield, Melanie Ann (Joel) Miller, and Leslie "Weasel" Fritts; grandchildren Tonya (Steve) Nigro and Sarah (Jason) Geer; great-grandchildren Lindsey, Thomas, Olivia and Jane; brother Preston Fritts; sisters Shirley Watkins and Mamie (James) Raschke; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Raymond, infant grandchildren Malcolm III and Chastity, three brothers and one sister. A visitation for Norwood will take place on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at Bartholomew Funeral Home from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, with funeral services immediately following.
