Norman H. Savageau 94 Worcester - Norman H. Savageau, 94 a lifelong resident of Worcester and winter resident of St Augustine Florida, passed away with family gathered by his side Monday, October 17th 2016. Norman was born in Worcester, one of six children of Telesphore and Etta (Plamondon) Savageau. He graduated from South High School , joined the U.S. Navy during World War II serving proudly in the Pacific aboard the USS Belieau Wood. Upon his discharge from the Service Norman married Barbara Whalen. For the next fifty years Norman and Barbara raised their family with love and devotion along Lake Quinsigamond before Barbara passed away in 1998. Norman continued to live in Worcester until his passing. Norman worked many years for Rice Barton Company retiring as manufacturing supervisor. Norman leaves behind his four children, Thomas J. Savageau and his wife Doris of Oxford, Carol Ann Parmenter and her husband Edward of Worcester, David N. Savageau of Holden, Nancy E. Toomey and her husband James of Rutland; eight grandchildren, Sarah Parmenter and her fiancée John Stringer, Rebecca Parmenter, Andrew Parmenter and his fiancée Kerry DeVito, Jonathan Toomey and his wife Katie, Cailin and Molly Toomey, Gregory and Jacqueline Savageau; two great grandsons he adored, George and Patrick Toomey; his former daughter in law, Karen Savageau of Holden, Many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Besides his wife, Barbara, Norman was predeceased by four sisters, Doris Wynn, Jean Donahue, Helen Conouyer, and Beatrice Weagle and a brother, Leo Savageau. A proud Navy veteran, Norman was a member of the Chester P. Tuttle post in Auburn. Norman and Barbara loved to dance and were weekly members of the Froshinn Club dance group on Saturday night. He loved to cook and garden; his flowers and tomato plants were always admired each summer. Norman was a gifted artist, painter and carpenter who could fix or build most anything. His last carpentry project was a small red bird house which he built just a few months before his passing. The Savageau family would like to thank the Staff of the Jewish Health Care Center and JHC Hospice, for the kind and loving care they gave to our Dad/Papa. Please know we are forever grateful to all of you. Funeral services will be held privately. Burial with Military honors will be held in Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in his name can be made to the Worcester Chapter of the Salvation Army, 640 Main Street. Worcester, Ma 01608.
