Nolen G. Savoie Grand Coteau - Funeral services will be held Friday, October 14, 2016 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church for Nolen G. Savoie, age 94, who passed away Monday, October 10, 2016 at his residence in Grand Coteau. Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. The Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, pastor of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church, will officiate at the services. Nolen G. Savoie was a native of Cankton and a resident of Grand Coteau. He was a volunteer fireman for thirty years for his cherished town of Grand Coteau. He was a parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau where he was an Usher. Mr. Savoie loved music and played the guitar and harmonica. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He always had a smile on his face and a great story to tell. He was a Cub Scout Master, high school basketball volunteer referee, and was the school basketball coach at Sacred Heart Parochial. He was a loving and doting father and grandfather. Survivors include three sons, Glenn Savoie and his wife, Cheryl, of Sunset, Kenny G. Savoie and his wife, Sherry, all of Sunset, and Darrel J. Savoie of San Antonio, TX; three daughters, Carline Mary and Sheila Patton and her husband, Randy, all of Baton Rouge and Alane Savoie of Greenville, SC; twelve grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty three years, the former Rita Mae Stelly; his parents, Joseph Leonard Savoie and the former Lea Dugas; one son, Kent G. Savoie; one brother; six sisters; and one son-in-law, Peter Mary. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home by Geneva Breaux. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home and will continue from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Hospice of Acadiana, his caretakers, Jane Nance, Janice Daigle and Onita Sonnier, Sister Betty from Sacred Heart, who would bring communion, and the doctors, nurses and staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
