Nellie S. Baran
Mrs. Nellie S. Jamula Baran, age 93, of Pittsfield, died Saturday, January 7th at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox with her children by her side. She was born in Pittsfield, May 28, 1923. She was the last of seven children born to the late Lukaz and Mary Lis Jamula. Nellie was educated in the local schools and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School where she ran track as a sprinter. After graduation, she was employed at the former General Electric Company for several years. A communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Nellie was a creative and talented artist using an array of artistic mediums. She created oil paintings, needlepoint and embroidery work, along with a multitude of unique craftwork. Her talent as a seamstress was also amazing. Restoring antique furniture was a favorite past time as well. She especially enjoyed making Christmas stockings for her family, and extended family and friends which are cherished even today. Additionally, she was known to intricately decorate ostrich and goose eggs as gifts for her family and friends. A member of the Berkshire County Chapter of the Embroiders Guild, she specifically enjoyed embroidering scenes of the Berkshires. Nellie was an avid reader and also enjoyed doing word search puzzles. For 62 years she was married to her husband, Stanley A. Baran, of Adams. They were married May 30, 1949 at the former Holy Family Church. He died May 18, 2011. She is survived by her two sons, Peter Baran and his wife, Patti of Bluffton, S.C., Robert Baran and his wife, Ellen of Pittsfield, her two daughters, Susan McGrath and her husband, Paul of Haverhill, and Teresa Baran Unwin and her husband, Joseph of Dalton, her seven cherished grandchildren, Kristin, Lucas, Nicole, Matthew, Amanda, Devon and Ericka, her nine adored great-grandchildren, Madison, Avery, Cooper, Liam, Olivia, Savannah, Victoria, Luna and Wesley. Additionally, she is survived by her in laws, Doris Baran, Andrew Bulsa, Tony and Jean Baran, Marion Baran, Jane Santolin, and all of her nieces and nephews. Nellie joins her parents and sisters, Toni, Della, Helen, Bernice and Mary Ann and her brother Eddie in eternal rest and peace. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center for their attentive and compassionate care during Nellie's short stay. SERVICES: Baran, Nellie S. Jamula, age 93, died Jan. 7th. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 13th at 9:00 am at St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor, officiating. The Rite of Committal and Inurnment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Church Memorial Fund in care of the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME which has been entrusted with her care.
