In memory of
Natalie Heller Effron
EFFRON Natalie Heller, of Park Ridge, NJ, and Naples, FL, previously resided in Woodcliff Lake, NJ, for 62 years. Born August 10, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY, Natalie was the cherished daughter of the late Nathan and Dora Heller and beloved wife of 60 years to the late Harold Effron (2015). Dear sister of Estelle Hamburg and devoted Mother of Denise and Bill Hayes, Robin Malley, Melissa and Michael Keenan. Adored grandmother of Jason Hoffman, Sarah Malley, Jenna Malley, Samantha Keenan and Zachary Keenan. The family is grateful for the love and support of Natalie's gentle caregiver Faithlyn Wilson, as well as Ellen Lockhart, RN of Valley Hospice. Natalie's parents opened the famed Empire Diner in 1934. At first, it was a small wooden structure. Later they bought the box car, that still stands today, and brought it to Manhattan on a flatbed truck. Natalie spoke of her father waking her in the middle of the night to see the Diner arrive. Police wouldn't permit the diner to be driven across the George Washington Bridge during the day because it took up too many lanes. Natalie and her husband owned several area businesses where they worked together, including Brand Bar and Beverages and Park Ridge Clothing and Manufacturing. After the sale of those businesses, Natalie become a Real Estate Broker and managed and worked for many area firms alongside her husband. For many years, Natalie and Harold provided refreshments, food and comfort to the firefighters of Park Ridge and Woodcliff Lake during significant fires on bitter cold nights, as well as serving hot chocolate to the members during the Santa Claus visit to the town's Depot Square on many Christmas Eves. Natalie was the first woman in the Borough of Woodcliff Lake to be appointed to a board. She was appointed to the Zoning Board of Adjustment in 1984 and served continuously through 2009, serving as chairperson for five of those years. Natalie was owner of the The Effron Town Center in Park Ridge, a building she and her husband designed and erected.
