Nancy Elizabeth (Hemple) Sandford, of Midland, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 15, 2017. Nancy was born March 24, 1937 to the late William and Joyce Hemple in Flint, and was a resident of Midland for the past 18 years. She was an accomplished seamstress, carpenter and avid reader, a creative soul and music lover with a talent for creating great meals. During her long life, Nancy was a consummate adventurer who, with her former husband Osmond, tended the Presque Isle Lighthouse near Alpena for many years. While at the lighthouse, Nancy developed a township park on the grounds where many community events were held. She is survived by her sister, Deborah(Kimbrough) Beaty; her daughters, Ruthanne (Clint) Shanafelt, Kimberly (Mike) Young, Margo (Frank) Wildfong and Susan (Loren) Hansen; and her son, Thomas(Leah) Sandford. She was a grandmother to 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She attended Midland Baptist Church, 5009 Jefferson Ave. where a memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. The Rev. James Payne will officiate. Burial will take place in the spring. Nancy's family will receive friends at the CHURCH on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, envelopes for a donation to the Toni & Trish House (Auburn) will be available.
