Nancy C. (Crowl) Morton
Nancy C. (Crowl) Morton, 78, of Girard, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at Pleasant Ridge Manor. She was born on August 11, 1938, in North Girard (now Lake City), a daughter of the late Lewis and June (Weyneth) Crowl. Nancy graduated from the Rice Avenue Union High School in 1957, and was Captain of the Yellowjacket Cheerleading Squad that year. Following high school, she attended Flight Attendant School and was a hostess for the airline industry for a time. She later in life attended and graduated from J.H. Thompson Beauty Academy and later worked as a Hairstylist in Lake City and Fairview. She performed many years with the "Sweet Adeline's," a singing group in Erie who performed throughout the area. She loved music throughout her life, as well as playing the organ and piano at her home. Her family fondly remembers her ability as a great cook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey P. Morton; her stepfather, Francis "Mac" McPhaden; and a brother, Terry Crowl in 1979. Her family includes her husband, James P. Morton, whom she married on November 15, 1958 in Girard; two sons, Stephen B. Morton (Jena) of Fairview and David S. Morton and his partner Mark Nowak of Erie; a granddaughter, Jewell Morton of Fairview; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Edder Funeral Home, Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard and are invited to attend services there on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Nicola Vitiello, Pastor of the Girard Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
