NEW BREMEN — Nancy L. Heitkamp, age 80, of New Bremen, died on Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, at 12:43 p.m. at her residence. She was born on Sept. 13, 1936, in Minster, to the late Clifford J. and Lilas M. (Tontrup) Quellhorst. On Nov. 28, 1963, she married Arnold Heitkamp, and he survives in New Bremen. Also surviving are her daughters, Susan (James) Christman, of St. Marys, and Sharri (Kelly Boos) Heitkamp, of St. Marys; grandchildren, Courtney and Caleigh Christman, and Jack, Evan and Katherine Boos; her siblings, Joan Klier, of Lyons, Ohio, Bonnie (William) Elsass, of Anna, and Kim Quellhost, of New Bremen. Nancy was preceded in death by a brother and a sister who died in infancy. Nancy was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen, and was a 1954 graduate of New Bremen High School. She worked at Crown Equipment Corp. in New Bremen for nine years before becoming a homemaker, and a stay at home mom to her girls. Over the years, she was a Girl Scout leader, volunteered at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, volunteered at the New Bremen High School Library, and played cards in a Bridge club. Nancy loved to read and do crossword puzzles. She especially loved to win at Euchre. Nancy was a fighter – having battled cancer three separate times over the last 36 years. She will be remembered as an awesome mom and grandma, a wonderful friend, and a beautiful woman inside and out. A Celebration of Life Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen with the Rev. Barry Stechschulte officiating. Inurnment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen. The family will receive friends on Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the Church.
