In memory of
Nancy Ann EVANS
EVANS, Nancy Ann 9/8/1946 - 10/5/2016 Nancy lived in Webster City, Iowa, from birth until age 12, at which time she moved with her family to Mason City. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1964. After attending Stephen's College for two years, she transferred to the University of Iowa, where she received her BA as an art major in 1968. For most of her adult life, Nancy lived in Tucson, Arizona, in her beloved Sonoran Desert. Nancy had many interests. A talented artist, she was particularly knowledgeable about the history of the painters and sculptors of the Renaissance. She loved to learn and to travel and made numerous trips overseas for pleasure, study, and volunteer work. Her special love for the plants and animals of the desert and concern for the environment led to her work with Native Seeds Search and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Her family has fond memories of her caring for animals that she rescued. These included a chipmunk that learned to come when called, an assortment of birds, and a very large tarantula that lived in a BMW hub cap on Nancy's kitchen counter for over a year before being restored to the desert. Nancy held many jobs over the years, including as an illustrator, a property manager for the Las Lomas Ranch in Tucson, and as a realtor for Del Webb. She spent her last days peacefully at Casa de La Luz Hospice in Tucson, surrounded by loving family, friends, and hospice staff. Nancy is survived by her daughter, Ashley O'Dell of Los Angeles, California and her sisters, Elizabeth Evans (Steve Reitz) and Mary Provost (Alain Provost) of Tucson and Katherine Evans of San Antonio, Texas, as well as two nieces and two nephews. Her parents were the late John W. Evans, Jr., and Marjorie Howard Evans, long-time residents of Mason City. A Memorial Service will be held at a future date. To honor Nancy's talent as an artist and her love of the arts, the family requests that memorial gifts be made in her name to The Drawing Studio of Tucson, Arizona (for more information, please contact Evanse@email.arizona.edu).
