Monsignor William L. Greene
Monsignor William L. Greene entered heaven on Monday, October 17, 3 days after celebrating his 91st birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Paul Greene and Effie Hickman Greene, his brothers Paul, Hickman, Roy and Asthon Greene and his sisters Rosalia Greene, Stell Cogan and his nephew David Greene. He is survived by one brother, Frank Greene and his nephews John Cogan, Dr. Bobby Greene, Dr. Ned Greene and his nieces Trimi McRea, Susan McCall and Barbara Morrison. Father Greene received his Master of Arts from Notre Dame Seminary and was ordained a priest June 3, 1950 at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans by Bishop Caillouet, the same priest who baptized him and gave him his First Communion. He served at St. Joseph Cathedral and Our Lady of Mercy, was then the founding Pastor of St. Pius X parish from 1963-1970, Pastor of St. Thomas More from 1970-1990 and Pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Francisville and Jackson La respectively. Throughout his career he served and or started several Catholic committees and activities. Upon his retirement, he continued to say Mass for his friends, the Sisters of the Congregation of St. Joseph. He also enjoyed traveling extensively to research the books he authored. His family extends heartfelt thanks to the Tiner family, Darlene, Luverta, and Loston, who gave Father Greene such loving care. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at St. Joseph Cathedral, 412 North St., Baton Rouge, LA 70802, from 9:00 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, celebrated by Bishop Robert Muench.
