Monse (Monserrate Rivera) SPEER
SPEER, Monse (Monserrate Rivera) 96, resident of Rohnert Park, CA, passed away September 20, 2016. She was born on October 17, 1919 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, the eldest daughter of Bartolome Rivera Colon and Eustaquia Rivera Rodriguez. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy High School and worked as an office clerk before she entered the Congregation of the Sister Servants of Mary in 1940. While in the convent she obtained her degree as a registered nurse and was stationed in Kansas City, New Orleans and Bogota, Colombia. She left this congregation in 1966, after which she spent many years caring for the sick in Veteran's Hospitals and nursing homes, first in New Orleans and later in California. In 1977 she married Norman Speer, who passed away a couple of years later, in 1979. She was also preceded in death by her brother Victor Rivera and sister Quirina Rivera. She is survived by her brother Father William Rivera and by her nieces and nephews: sister Ana Rivera OCD, Dr. Carlos Rivera, Rosa Rivera-Marrero, Victor Rivera and Ines Rivera-Leon and their families. Monse was an active member of Saint Elizabeth Seton Parish in Rohnert Park, CA, for over 20 years. She will be remembered with much love and affection by her family and friends. We would like to express our deep appreciation to Father John, to the staff of Sunset House, to her close friend Melody Ottolini and to all the members of her Parish community who supported her and looked after her needs in her last years. Her interment will take place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery on October 17, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. and a Mass will be said for her at her parish on October 25, 2016 at 8:30 am. May she rest in peace. ...
