Coach Modie Risher, Sr. CHARLESTON - Coach Modie L. Risher, Sr., 88, entered into eternal rest in the arms of his devoted wife of 57 years, Mrs. DeLaris J. Risher, on October 17, 2016 in Charleston, SC. A gathering of family and friends will be held to celebrate his life. The visitation, viewing and memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at the Modie L. Risher, Sr. Athletic Center at Burke High School, 244 President Street, Charleston, SC 29403. Coach Risher will lie in state in the Gym: 4:00 - 6:00 PM; The Flag Ceremony: 6:15 - 6:30 PM; Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Inc. Ceremony: 6:30 - 6:45 PM; The Memorial Tribute: 7:00 - 8:15 PM in the auditorium, Rev. Joseph Darby, Presiding Elder, Beaufort District, South Carolina Conference, Seventh Episcopal District, AME Church, officiating. The Homegoing Services for Coach Risher will be held on Monday, October 24, 2016, 11:00 AM, at Morris Brown African Methodist Episcopal Church, 13 Morris Street, Charleston, SC 29403, Rev. Dr. Charles R. Watkins, Jr., Servant Pastor. The Entombment will immediately follow the services at Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 2915 Ashley Phosphate Road, North Charleston, SC 29418. Other family members Coach Risher leaves to cherish his memory include his children: Modie, Jr. and DeVonne Risher Smalls; son-in-law: James Smalls, I.; grandchildren: James Smalls II, and DeAna Smalls. In addition, a brother: John C. Jackson; brothers-in-law: Wayman Johnson (Rosa), Attorney William Johnson (Annette); sister-in-law: Dr. Vermelle Johnson; God Child: Zenetta Heard; two adopted children: Maurice Johnson (Donna) and Sue Meriwether; and a host of extended family members, including in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.
