In memory of
Miriam E. Purdon
Miriam E. Purdon of Carbondale passed into eternal rest at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, on Monday. She was the widow of David Purdon, who died in 2006. Born in Carbondale, on Dec. 28, 1925, daughter of the late Alfred and Viola Cobb Moyle, she was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and the Eastern Bible Institute, Green Lane. She was a member of the Peckville Assembly of God Church. Before her retirement, she was employed as a seamstress for the Carbondale Children's Dress Factory. Miriam spent her life caring for others. She continually sewed clothes, Halloween costumes and even wedding dresses for her family. Miriam taught Sunday school to children and adults, and inspired others through her daily devotion and love for Christ. Christmas was a favorite holiday for Miriam, and she would start making or purchasing personalized gifts for her large family as early as July. There are three generations of her family who have enjoyed her crocheted afghans, dolls and animals. Her kitchen was abundant with her home-baked cookies, pumpkin bread and other goodies. She was an aunt who loved taking her nieces and nephews on trips and visits to the lake. Her love for her family and friends was selfless and unconditional. Miriam's joyful nature, quick sense of humor, generosity and love will be missed greatly by her family and friends. The family would like to thank all of Mariam's caregivers for the compassionate care given to her. Surviving are a brother, Elwood Moyle and wife, Joannie; two nephews, Craig Moyle and wife, Kathy; Douglas Moyle and wife, Margie; three nieces, Kristen Walker, Beth DeLancey and husband, Jeff; Karey Walker and husband, James; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Frances Pearce Moyle; and a nephew-in-law, Raymond Walker. The funeral will be Friday with services at 11 a.m. in the Peckville Assembly of God Church, Business Route 6, Blakely, with Pastor Terry Drost officiating. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park, Montdale. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 until service time. Arrangements by the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home Inc., 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale.
