In memory of
Ms. Mildred Battles, 90, Gadsden, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016. Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Collier-Butler Chapel. The Rev. Daniel Pope will officiate. Interment will follow at Forrest Cemetery. Ms. Battles was a graduate of Etowah High School; Holy Name of Jesus School of Nursing; and University of Alabama School of Nursing. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau. She retired from V.A. Medical Center after 25 years. After retirement, she spent time volunteering and traveling. Ms. Battles played the piano for years and was an avid Alabama football fan. She was a member of Bellevue United Methodist Church and the St. Andrews Sunday School Class; United Methodist Women, Past District President; and Pilot Club, Past President. Ms. Battles was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma Battles; father, Leonard Battles; and brother-in-law, James Erwin. Ms. Battles is survived by her sister, Myra Erwin; nieces, Nancy Erwin and Carol (Thomas) Williams. Pallbearers will be family and friends: Ralph Godfrey, Sonny Kidd, Harry Sullivan, Jay Moore, Cecil Ledbetter, and Roy Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Elder, Gene Cleveland, and Dennis Adams. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bellevue United Methodist Church, 209 Mary Lou Circle, Gadsden, Alabama 35904. Special thanks to the staff of Physicians Choice Dialysis; Physicians Apothecary; the staff of Alacare Hospice; special nurse, Lindsey Dupree; special friends, Robert and Mary Elder.
