In memory of
James Michael "Mike" Mattox, 60, passed away suddenly at his residence on October 12, 2016. Mike was born July 10, 1956, to James Boyd and Jean Mattox and was a life long resident of Myrtle. He was employed by the town of Myrtle and was also a cattle dealer, a trade he learned from his father at a very young age. Mike was very involved with his church, Bethlehem Methodist. Mike enjoyed many things in his life, but his greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Lemons Mattox; his children James Michael Mattox II, Tess Wilson Mattox, and Candace Cooper; his step-children Alisha Daniel and James Ray Gandy and his grandchildren: Anna Beth (Boo Boo), Dream, Caroline, Olivia, and Crimson. Mike is also survived by his mother, Jean Howell Mattox; his sister and brother-in-law, Brenda Mattox Koon and Larry Koon; and special cousins Ginger Hodges, Sandra Sumner, and Bill Mattox. He was preceded in death by his father, James Boyd Mattox, Jr., and his grandparents Luther and Hattie Howell and James Boyd and Thelma Mattox. Pallbearers are Charles Collins, Noel Jackson, Bill Mattox, Donnie Milam, David Peeler, and Terry Pernell. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Expanding Faith Sunday School Class at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Myrtle United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Lawrence and Rev. Eugene Stockstill officiating. Interment will be at Gerizim Cemetery.
