In memory of
Mieko Yamaichi February 21, 1932 - October 12, 2016 Resident of San Jose Mieko Yamaichi passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. Her death followed a brief illness with complications from pneumonia. Mieko was born to Junoske and Kimiyo (Ueno) Hashida of Hiroshima, Japan. In 1962, she immigrated to the United States to marry Shigeru Yamaichi. Dedicated to self-improvement, Mieko attended adult education classes and community college to learn English and to obtain her high school diploma. She also studied Japanese calligraphy and tanka poetry writing. Mieko was a talented seamstress, cook and gardener. In the last few years, she was not able to participate in these activities or to take her daily walks, but she still enjoyed singing in her lovely soprano voice and she maintained her sense of humor to the end. Throughout her adult life, the Seicho-No-Ie faith was a guiding light and a source of peace and happiness. And together with husband Shigeru, she was active in the building of the Seicho-No-Ie church and in the effort to expand its reach. Mieko was preceded in death by husband Shigeru. She was mother to Angela Craig (Richard), April Yamaichi, June Cruz (Michael) and Benjamin Yamaichi. She was grandmother to Steven Craig, Libby Craig, Marco Cruz, Christian Cruz, and Anthony Cruz.
