WURST, Michael Francis 1958 2017 A brilliant mind, a quiet philanthropist, a penchant for the practical solution as much as the practical joke, and successful professional all describe Michael Francis Wurst. Born September 15, 1958 in Pontiac, Michigan, Mike passed away near his home in Dallas, Texas January 11, 2017 following a well fought battle with cancer. But Mike's true legacy will be shaped by the love, devotion, and wisdom given unconditionally to his family and friends. Selfless and always considering the needs of others over his own, Mike generously gave of his time, talent, and treasure, wanting no acknowledgement or fanfare. After earning his undergraduate degree from the University of North Texas and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston, Mike built a career in real estate and financial services earning himself a reputation as a creative business leader and attorney with a remarkable capacity to find the opportunity and sort out the solution to enable the deal. His career spanned more than three decades and multiple business cycles and through it all Mike consistently divined the path forward, earning respect from colleagues and competitors alike. Mike gave freely, helping others through a range of charitable and not-for-profit organizations including Youth with Faces, Café Momentum, Catholic Charities of Dallas, Bishop Lynch High School, Jesuit High School, Dallas Parochial League, St. Thomas Aquinas School, ORIX Foundation, as well as the UNT College of Law. He provided formal and informal mentorship to so many who knew him and valued his insights and informed guidance. Advice and humor shared even years ago continues to beneficially shape the lives of Michael's friends and family. Mike was a wonderful romantic, a voracious reader of anything, a writer of incredible skill, a lover of art and music, an avid sports fan, and an incomparable wit. His vocabulary was enormous, forcing many recipients of emails and texts to consult a dictionary. His faith in God was constant and substantial. His wife was his beloved and he was hers. Mike is survived by his wife Robin Minick, his sons Anthony Wurst, Nicholas Wurst, Vincent Wurst, and Kyle Minick, as well as his father David, mother Anne, sister Andrea, brothers Jerry, Tom, and Peter, and by scores of friends who love him dearly, will miss him forever, and are blessed to have had Mike in their lives. He also is survived by Barney, his devoted friend and caretaker throughout this journey. His wife is grateful to his caring Baylor/Texas Oncology medical team, his ORIX family, her TREC family, and all of their many other friends and family that have consistently been present, supportive and in prayer. Mike donated his body to UT Southwestern's Willed Body Program in the hope that others can benefit in the future from what researchers might learn. Memorial services will be held at 11AM Monday, January 16th, 2017 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 6306 Kenwood Ave., Dallas, TX 75214; a reception will follow in St. Anne Hall immediately following. In lieu of flowers Mike's family requests donations be made in his name to a charity of your choosing.
