Michael Thomas Szkodzinski passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 2, 2016, after a short battle with cancer. Mike was born on March 3, 1965 in Pico Rivera, CA. He and his family moved to Lockeford, CA in 1974. Mike graduated from Lodi High School in 1983 and then joined the Army. While in the service he studied Polish and Vietnamese. He was most proud of his work with Joint Task Force Full Accounting. He made seven trips to Vietnam and helped to bring home the remains of two soldiers lost during the war. Mike was honorably discharged from the Army in 1999. Mike met his wife Pam when they were both living in Maryland. They were married in 2001, and moved back to California in 2004 so Mike could be closer to his sons. Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Mary Szkodzinski, and his mother, Maria Jung Szkodzinski. In addition to his wife Pam, Mike is survived by his father, Jerome, his brothers Peter (Sofia), and Jospeh, his sons Matthew and Jacob, his step-son Paul, his grandson Alexei, his niece Tia, and nephews Kristen, Kaiden, and Masen. Mike had an infectoius personality, a quick wit and a love for life. He was hard to forget once you met him and made lasting friendships wherever he went. Mike was an outdoorsman at heart and spent some of his happiest moments fishing the local waterways, willingly sharing anything he caught with family and friends. Though Mike is gone, his spirit will forever be with those who knew and loved him. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 21, 2016, at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Lockeford, CA, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon in the Parish Hall. The family extends a warm welcome to all who knew Mike and would like to share in celebrating his life. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Mike's memory to either Restore The Delta, or Disabled American Veterans.
