Szafirowski, Michael J. Saginaw, Michigan Beloved husband, father, brother and uncle passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at his home. Age 70 years. The son of the late John and Helen (Lasso) Szafirowski, Mike was born on July 18, 1946 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Janet Cook, his loving wife of almost 50 years, on May 20, 1967. She survives him. Mike served for 28 years on the Saginaw City Police Department retiring in 1992 and also served on the Saginaw County Sheriff Department. Mike enjoyed bowling and reading. He also coached gymnastics for many years. Mike was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #105. Surviving besides his wife Janet are two children, Jay Szafirowski, Saginaw; Marcie (Mark) McDowell, Marana, Arizona; great-nephew, Jesse Cornejo; four siblings, Dennis Szafirowski, Warren; Kevin Szafirowski, Saginaw; Karen Warrington, Saginaw; Kathy (Chris) Mauro, Birch Run; brother-in-law, John (Rynn) Cook, Norcross, Georgia; several nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles J. and Vivian Cook, a sister-in-law, Judy Dudek; a niece, Sarah Cornejo and a nephew, John Mauro. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty). Honoring Mike's wishes, cremation will follow. The Saginaw Police Department and Saginaw County Sheriff Department will do a walk-thru at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
