MICHAEL ATTALAH SAMANDER
SAMANDER, MICHAEL ATTALLAH Michael Attallah Samander, 60, of Killingworth, beloved husband of 34 years to Emily Vendola Samander, passed away on October 16, 2016. Born on August 26, 1956 in Maan, Jordan, he was the son of the late Attallah and Mifedah Samander. Michael owned his own construction business for 25 years and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it, especially woodworking. His recent career was as an interpreter for the US Army in Iraq. He loved being outdoors and appreciated nature around him – and even tended a garden, growing flowers and vegetables. Michael was a dedicated writer who wrote in both English and Arabic and aspired to have his writings published. He was a spiritual man, who will truly be missed by all who had the honor and privilege of knowing him. He loved being around his family, friends and his two loyal dachshunds and enjoyed family gatherings, and was also known to indulge in many cigars in his free time. Besides his wife, Emily, Michael is survived by his daughters, Salena Erminia Samander and Genna Rose (Theodore) Kanaras; his siblings, Hana Samander, Suhail Samander, Ida Sayej, Emily Owais and Ellen Shahoud and their spouses; as well as many nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Mona Vendola; brother-in-law, Christopher Vendola and his spouse; sister-in-law, Mary-Lou Vendola-Mattei; and his daughter’s parents-in-law, John and Anna Kanaras. He was predeceased by his brother, Antone Samander and his grandmother-in-law, Emily DiVirgilio.
