Michael Talmadge Pless passed away peacefully on the morning of February 13, 2017 following a brief illness. Michael was born Nov. 11, 1939 in Knoxville, Tenn. to parents Hal and Annette Pless. He graduated with a psychology degree from the University of Tennessee and went on to join the U.S. Navy. After time spent here and abroad, he was assigned to San Diego where he met and fell in love with Ann Linnett. The two were married in Oxnard, CA April 12, 1969. Michael's commitment to his Navy carrier took the two to Washington, DC where in 1970 he retired as a Lieutenant Commander. The Santa Barbara area was to become their home for the last 40 yrs. Michael and Ann went on to open and operate the very popular Presidio Café on Anacapa St. in Santa Barbara for over 14 yrs. He finished his active employment as Operations Manager of Kanaloa Seafood of SB. He retired 10 years ago to enjoy a life of travel and photography. His travels spanned 6 of the 7 continents of the world to places such as Nepal, Namibia, Antarctica and Papua New Guinea. His love of photography and adventure often took him camping capturing the beauty of many national parks. Yes, Michael lived a full and rich life. He was devoted to his wife Ann Linnett Pless for 47 yrs. He is also survived by his sister Judy and her husband John Love of Knoxville, Tennessee. A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, Feb. 17 at Mt. Carmel Church, Montecito. In lieu of flowers, Ann asks that any donations be made to: Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care, 512 E.
