Pastor Michael G. Piper
Asleep in Jesus, Pastor Michael G. Piper, 54, New Melle, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at DePaul Hospital, St. Louis. Michael was born July 4, 1962, in Hancock, Mich., the son of Walter Piper and June Piper, nee Lassila. He served as the pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, New Melle, since 1997. Michael was a member of the New Melle Chamber of Commerce, the Bench Rest Rifle Club and the Russian Speakers Meet-up Group. He also was active with the Gold's Gym Training Program. Mostly, Michael was a wonderful husband, father, son and beloved pastor. He was dearly loved and will be long remembered in the hearts of many. Michael was the beloved husband of Kay Piper, nee McDonald, New Melle. He also is survived by his father, Walter Piper, Tarpon Springs, Fla.; stepmother, Catherine Piper, Tarpon Springs, Fla.; three sons, Joshua, Robert and Thomas Piper, all of New Melle; one daughter, Natalie Piper, St. Louis; one brother, Todd (Carolyn) Piper, Clearwater, Fla.; two sisters, Suzanne (Lew Shortz) Piper, Palm Harbor, Fla., and Sandra Piper, Clearwater, Fla.; one stepsister, Kate (Stephen) Rumble, Marietta, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Charlena Piper; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, June Piper, and one brother, Scott Piper. Visitation was held Friday, Feb. 10, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Pitman Funeral Home, Wentzville. A funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, New Melle. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Melle, Mo., or the Jim West Prostate Cancer Foundation ( http://www.jwestprostatefoundation.org/ ), in care of Pitman Funeral Home, P.O.
