Michael L. Murphy
Michael Leo Murphy passed away peacefully in his sleep, at his home in Las Vegas, on December 20, 2016, at the age of 63. Mike leaves behind his beloved son Ollie, wife Julie, sister and brother-in-law Gayle and Dick Class, brother-in-law Peter Sellars, nieces and nephews, and countless dear friends. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY, on January 9th , 1953, Mike moved to Vermont in grade school, and would graduate from Brattleboro Union High School in 1971. An extraordinarily gifted, talented, and self-taught musician, he toured the Northeast & Southwest with many bands, including Full Circle. An accomplished television broadcast and systems engineer, Mike would go on to live and work across the country, including at Fox Sports in Los Angeles, the Monitor Channel in Boston, and Sony Systems Integration in San Jose. Additionally, his work for the NBC Olympics would take him to the Sydney 2000, Salt Lake 2002, Athens 2004, Torino 2006, Beijing 2008, and Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games, for which he earned 3 Emmy Awards. Known for his sly wit, mischievous smile, and devotion to his friends and family, Mike was a man who never left a bad impression with anyone, and who will be dearly missed by those fortunate enough to have known him.
