Michael G. "Weird Beard" Malak
Michael G. "Weird Beard" Malak, 69, of Augusta, passed away from natural causes at home 9:51 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016. He will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at Radiant Church, 8157 E. De Ave., Richland, Mich. A gathering of family and friends will take place 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at his son Michael's house, 10232 Lewis Ave., Temperance. All are welcome to attend, reminisce and share your stories about Mike. Mike was born Feb. 26, 1947 in Wyandotte, Mich. and lived in Augusta, Mich. He drove a semi truck for many years as well as other handyman jobs. The son of Barney and Shirley (Daniels) Malak, he moved to Erie with his family in 1961. Mike attended Erie Mason High School. He was an avid hunter, and he loved his hunting and fishing. Mike was a good father who enjoyed nothing more than his three sons, Robby, Greg and Michael. He had many friends over the years and always stayed in contact with them, Mike was a very spiritual person who was always involved in his church and was quite knowledgeable in quoting scripture. He is survived by his three sons, Robert (Annie) of Temperance, Gregory (Kara) of LaSalle and Michael (Angie) of Temperance; stepchildren Renee (Dan) Miller of Erie, Jason Trowbridge of Toledo; Chad, Josh and Rachael Cole, all of western Michigan; six grandchildren: Chelsea, Michael, Richie, Miah, Brayden and Mitchel. He is also survived by a sister, Janet (Dave) Yenor of Erie and stepmother Ora Malak of Monroe. Others who Mike was especially close to include his sister-in-law Margie Malak of Waterford, friend Mike Nagel of Erie, and Cindy (Eighmey) Helminiak of Erie. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard (Margie) Malak.
