MICHAEL SHELTON DAWKINS Of Spotsylvania, Virginia, formerly of Alexandria, passed away on October 4, 2016. He served with the U.S. Air Force in the Vietnam conflict. Following his discharge, he spent 35+ years working in systems engineering and secure communications with various technology companies, including Teledyne Geotech, SAIC, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Northrup Grumman. He retired in 2011. Michael was born in Decatur, Alabama, in 1946 to Aleta Jacobs Dawkins and the late Shelton Bourbon Dawkins. He grew up in Selma and Mobile, Alabama, attended the University of South Alabama and lived the majority of his adult life in the Alexandria area of Northern Virginia. He was a loving son, father, grandfather and husband. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Rosanne Desmone of Spotsylvania; his brother, Kevin Rawls Dawkins of Huntsville, Alabama; his son, Matthew Dawkins of Charleston, SC; his niece, Kristen DiNozzi of Venice, California; his brother-in-law, Raymond A. Desmone of Alexandria, Virginia; and his grandchildren, Phoenix Walsh DeSimone of Radford, VA; Eden Lee Kaup of Dale City, VA; and George and Jack Dawkins of Charleston. He also leaves an uncle and aunt, Bill and Mary Dawkins of Mobile and aunts Dane Callaghan of Jackson and Lucille Hicks of Meridian, Mississippi; as well as numerous treasured cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his stepson, Mark Hanna Walsh. Memorial donations may be made to FIRST, an organization whose mission is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders.
