Melvin Fred Epperson, 72, of Vandalia, passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal. Memorial services will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, at Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Sonya Gilbert officiating. Final disposition will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Vandalia. Memorial visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m., until time of service. Melvin was born on July 18, 1944, in Vandalia, the son of Fred and Edna Smith Epperson. He grew up in Vandalia and graduated from Van Far High School in 1962. He married Janet Dixon on Aug. 18, 1978, in Bowling Green. Surviving family includes his wife, Janet; two daughters, Elissa (Bethany) Epperson, of St. Louis; and Morgan Epperson, of St. Louis; two sons, Hank (Nikki) Spencer and Brent Spencer, both of the state of California; three grandchildren, Jacob, Jason and Madison Spencer; brother, Dale (Carol) Keller, of Farber; and sister, Helen Pease, of Vandalia. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Candace; sister, Doris Reading; brothers, Mayo and Roy Keller, and Leo, in infancy. Melvin was an over-the-road truck driver for Sonoco, MFA and Affton trucking companies. He also farmed and raised livestock on the family farm. Melvin had the gift of gab and enjoyed visiting with people on the phone. He also enjoyed reading, gardening and most of all spending time with family. Memorials may be made to The American Heart Association, American Lung Association or the Missouri Baptist Children's Home.
