BUENDIA, Melvin Acxitl Age 50, went to be with our Lord, Wednesday, December 28, 2016, following a stroke. He passed peacefully and quietly at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, surrounded by family and friends. Melvin was born in San Salvador, El Salvador on September 28, 1966. He and his family moved to the United States in 1971. He grew up in Baltimore, Maryland before moving to McAllen, Texas in 1976. He graduated from McAllen Memorial High School in 1985 and from the former Southwest Texas State University in 1991 with a degree in Political Science. He loved sports, classic rock music and spending time with family and his wide circle of friends. Melvin was a devoted fan of baseball's Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers plus football's Houston Texans. He adored traveling and visited many countries where new cultures were a point of fascination for him. Everyone who knew Melvin, knew how well read he was. His favorites subjects included history, politics, sports and fiction. Melvin did not make acquaint-ances. He made friends. Every social occasion, however small, became a cherished memory thanks to his infectious smile, his warm personality and love of good conversation. He never passed on an opportunity to brag about his beautiful daughter Victoria. Some of his career highlights include working 13 years for American Airlines in Austin and Fort Worth where he served as a Sales Manager in both Corporate Sales accounts and Latin American accounts. He also spent five years as a Business Sales Specialist for TXU Energy in Irving, Texas. He is survived by his daughter, Victoria Buendia of College Station, Texas; his brother Alan Buendia of San Antonio, Texas; his sister Arlene Buendia of Kingwood, Texas, his mother Ana Buendia of Kingwood, Texas; his grandmother Cruzita Buendia in El Salvador; his uncle Ricardo Magaña and aunt Maria Mercedes Magaña of Kingwood, Texas; his uncle Eduardo Magaña of Houston, Texas; his uncle Rafael Magaña of Tampa, Florida; the Cardin family in Kingwood, Texas; the Buendia family in El Salvador; the Magaña family in Spring, Texas; his sister-in-law Elaine Buendia; and future fiance Tracy McDonough of Bentonville, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his father Acxitl Buendia, his grandfather Rafael Magaña and grandmother Maria Victoria Magaña. Memorial services for Melvin will be at St. Mary Magdalene's Catholic Church (527 S. Houston Ave.) at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 16, in Humble, Texas. Following services, Melvin's remains will be placed in a crypt beside his father's remains at Rosewood Funeral Home-St. Matthew's Statue. A reception will follow from 1-3 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene's Parish Hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Rosewood Funeral Home (2602 S. Houston Ave.) in Humble.
