COOK, Melva Of Dallas. Born August 1, 1919, and died October 11, 2016 in Dallas. She was the daughter of Ancel and Irene Cook. Melva graduated from Wylie High School, North Texas State College and attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. A retiree of the Baptist Sunday School Board of Nashville, Tennessee, she spent twenty-seven years there as an editor and consultant. She also served four years with the Baptist General Convention of Texas and on the staff of several churches. She was author or co-author of thirteen books in the field of religious education. In 2000, the Association of Baptist Ministries with the Aging, awarded her the Adkins-Kerr award for her contribution to work with senior adults. She was a member of Gaston Oaks Baptist Church. Survived by her brother, James W. Cook and wife Helen of Dallas; nephew, James P. Cook and wife Cheryl of Plano; great-niece, Cassie Lyell and husband John of Ft. Worth; great-nephews, Chris and John Cook of Plano and great-great-nephew Wyatt Lyell of Ft. Worth. Melva willed her body to medical science. A memorial service will be held at Gaston Oaks Baptist Church, Royal Lane at Greenville, October 22, 2016, conducted by Pastor Gary Cook. Memorial gifts may be made to Gaston Oaks Baptist Church.
