MAYNARD LEIST WAPAKONETA — Maynard L. "Bud" Leist, 97, went peacefully to be with the Lord at 7:26 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2017 at his residence, He was born in Marion Township, OH on October 29, 1919 to the late Grace Leist. He married Betty Jane Jones on June 29, 1941 at Zion Lutheran Church in Lima, OH. She preceded him in death on July 27, 1995. Bud was employed at Westinghouse Small Motor Division for 36 years and 7 years at Stippich Hardware after his retirement from Westinghouse. He was an Army veteran of WWII. He was a Life Member and past commander of American Legion Post #96 ; a Life Member and past commander of the DAV; Life Member of the 40 & 8 and a past Chef de Gare; a Life Member of the VFW; member of Eagles Lodge #691, Wapakoneta; Lima Moose Lodge #199 and a member of B.P.O.E. #54 in Lima. He was a member of Cridersville Methodist Church. Bud and his companion of over 20 years, Virginia Hedrick of Cridersville, spent many winters in Eustis, FL and traveled the county. Survivors include two daughters: Narda (Terry) Newland of Lucas,OH; Andrea (Gerald) Herod of Elida, OH and a son Mark of Cridersville. OH; Six grandchildren: Paul Hinds of Mansfield, OH, Stephanie (Michael) Moore of Hastings, MI, Geoffrey (Kendra) Newland of Lucas, OH, Barbara (Dave Radabaugh) Inskeep of Heath, OH, Dianne Herod of Grove City, OH and Loretta (Ryan) Good of Miamisburg, OH; Eight great-grandchildren: Wayne (Suzanne) Rupert, Samantha Inskeep, Elijah, Elisabeth, Tobias and Jonah Newland and Ariel and Brittany Moore; Six great-great grandchildren: Jameson, Christina, Isabella, Peyton, Cambria and Jordan. A Celebration of Life will be observed at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. Pastor Doug Price from Elm Street Church of the Brethren will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites presented by Lima VFW Post #1275 and the Army Honor Guard. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. Rita;s Hospice.
