In memory of
Max Tietjen was born in New Haven, CT, along with his twin brother, Henry, to Reverend Henry Tietjen, and Anna Weber Tietjen. They grew up there with two older brothers, Bill and Dick. The family spent wonderful summers at their seaside cottage in Guilford, CT. After high school graduation in 1941, Max was drafted into the United States Army. He served in the Pacific during World War II, with the 517th Field Artillery Battalion and saw action in the Solomon Islands and the Philippines. He married the love of his life, Miriam Seyer, in 1950. They had four children. Max and Miriam relocated to California in 1954, and settled in Fresno, CA. They immediately became involved in serving the Lord through their church. Most recently, Max was a member of Peace Lutheran. Max had a career in sales and witnessed the growth and development of the computer industry. He had customers and friends throughout northern California as he helped businesses understand the value of computers in the workplace. His hobbies included photography, music, motorcycles, his classic Porsche 912, gardening, and baking bread. He passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Turlock, CA. Max is survived by his daughters, Michal Hembd and her husband Doug, Aila Hillberg and her husband Ron, and Lisa; and son, Steve and his wife Becky. In addition to his children, he is survived by eight grandchildren, Bret Hembd, Max Hembd and his wife Ally, Alex Tietjen and his wife Elisabeth, Emily Shelburne and her husband Drew, Joel, Daniel, Joslyn and Lynsey Hillberg; three great-grandchildren, Charlotte Tietjen, Olivia and Nate Shelburne; many nieces and nephews; and his second wife, Betty Tietjen.
