Max C. Neubauer
Max C. Neubauer Des Moines Max C. Neubauer, 86, passed away April 13, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center. Max was born April 26, 1930, to Joseph and Susie Neubauer in Omaha, Nebraska, the ninth of ten children. He graduated from Norwalk High School in 1947. A Purple Heart recipient, Max served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a sniper during the day and a machine gunner at night. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 44 years. He was a member of St. John's Basilica and the Purple Heart Hall of Honor. Max in survived by a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Mike, Nick, Harold, John, and Albert "Abe" Neubauer and his sisters, Marie Meyer, Eleanor Ash, Frances Radke, and Sister Modesta Neubauer. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 10 o'clock at the Basilica of St. John with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Max will be laid to rest with military honors at the Cumming Cemetery in Cumming, Iowa. The family would like to thank the staff at Bishop Drumm for Max's compassionate, excellent care.
