Maurice Dean Trexler, 89, of Vandalia, passed away at 11:25 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at Life's Journey Senior Living in Pana. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church in rural Vandalia, with the Rev. Harry Kirk officiating. Interment will be in Ritter Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday and one hour prior to services on Wednesday, both at the church. Memorials: Ritter Cemetery, Liberty Church or Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Trexler was born on July 15, 1928, in Vandalia, the son of Floyd C. and Evelyn C. (Ritter) Trexler. He married Norma June Himes on Aug. 17, 1947; she preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 2014. Maurice was employed with the state of Illinois as a manager of Department of Motor Vehicles in Vandalia. He was elected a Democratic precinct committeeman in 1965 and then elected as the Democratic county chairman in 1980, with more than 40 years of service; Maurice retired from both positions in 2010. He was a member of Vandalia Moose Lodge No. 1447, AINAD Shriners of East St. Louis, Old National Trail Shrine Club and Gilham Masonic Lodge No. 809 of Mulberry Grove. He is survived by his sons, Charles Trexler and his wife Joyce of Vandalia, Robert "Bob" Trexler and his wife Renee of Vandalia, and Kent Trexler and his wife Andrea of Springfield; grandchildren, Beth, Jill, Kevin, Kyle, Jennifer, Jason and Amy; and great-grandchildren, Landon, Lauren, Audriana, Bryton, Alyssa, Aaron, Charlie and Dallas. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter, Kathy Trexler; brothers, Larry Trexler, Walter "Max" Trexler and Curtis Trexler; and a sister, Betty Lou Trexler.
