Maurice Patrick Eustace Age: 86 • Williston Maurice Patrick Eustace, 86, of Williston passed away peacefully following a brief illness on January 11, 2017 at the VNA Respite House with his family at his side. Maurie was born and raised in New York, NY on November 15, 1930, the son of Robert & Della Margaret (Sammon) Eustace. He began his Engineering degree at City College of New York before serving his country, with distinction, in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Mary Foley on November 3, 1956 in the Bronx, NY. After moving with his family to Vermont, he later completed his degree at Goddard College in Plainfield, VT. Maurie worked as an Advisory Engineer for IBM in Essex Jct, VT, taking early retirement in 1992 after 25 years of service in order to care for his wife, Mary, who was suffering from Alzheimers. He was a member of the BPOE #916 in Burlington, the Knights of Columbus Third Degree in Winooski and the VFW Post 782 in Burlington. He was a longtime parishioner at Immaculate Heart of Mary parish. Maurie was also dedicated to volunteer efforts in his community, serving numerous charitable organizations including the VT Respite House, Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf, Shelburne Farms and Champlain Elementary School. Maurie was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed. He was predeceased by his wife Mary in August 2000; and his brother Robert in June 2013. He is survived by his three children, Thomas Eustace and wife Jane of Colchester, Karen Claghorn and husband David of Jericho, and Timothy Eustace and wife Kathleen of Williston; and seven grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Sean, Kayla, Ryan, Meghan and James Eustace and Patrick and Mary Claghorn. The family wishes to thank the staff at UVM Medical Center and the VNA Respite House for their compassionate care during his illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 10am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Williston. Burial with military honors will follow at Resurrection Park Cemetery in South Burlington.
