In memory of
Maurice DeHart born September 16, 1967 in Bellevue Wa. passed away this October 7, 2016 in Juneau, Alaska. He was 49 years old. He is survived by his mother Shirley DeHart, his four brothers Mel, Terry, Kurt, and Tim, and by his two sisters Jeannette and Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his father Melrose DeHart. Maurice was a very special person. He was born with cerebral palsy and was a quadriplegic and basically none verbal. However, when he came to Juneau and worked with the St Judes Center he learned to communicate on letter board with Jeannie. That was a wonderful time in his life. He fell in love with his speach therapist and they worked together so Maurice could communicate with the world. Working with his mother, Maurice started writing poetry, he wrote three books based on His experiences in life. One of his poems was read on the Jerry Lewis telethon and he was very proud of that accomplishment. Maurice lived with his mom and dad in the Juneau area for fourty years. Living on a large cabin cruiser in Juneau harbor and at Tenakee Springs as well. He will be greatly missed by his mother, who cared for him his whole life and his siblings who all appreciated him in his struggle in this life. He will also be missed by the various care givers that he had throughout his life who all came to love him. Services will be held for Maurice on Monday October 17th at 1:00pm at the Legacy funeral home at 3839 Riverside Drive, Juneau, Alaska May he rest in peace and be free at last.
