Maureen A. 'Penny' Linehan Dedicated Chatham special education teacher, enjoyed time at the shore with family Maureen A. "Penny" Linehan, 72, of Chatham, N.J., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Visitation will be on Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Chatham 07928. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at St. Patrick's Church, 85 Washington Ave., Chatham 07928. Maureen was born on June 19, 1944, in Point Pleasant, N.J. She was the daughter of Arthur and Margaret (nee McRedmond) O'Connor. Maureen attended Lacordaire Academy and graduated from Seton Hall University with a bachelor's in education. She furthered her education at William Paterson University with a master's in education learning technologies and a master's in counseling from Kean University. She worked as a learning consultant for the Roseland District for six years. For the last 22 years, Penny has worked as a supervisor of special education for the school district of the Chathams. She also had a private practice teaching dyslexic children. She was a certified dyslexia teacher trainer. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time down the shore with her family. Penny was an avid bridge player. She and her husband, James were very involved in Compassionate Friends and held the position as chapter leader and board member for over 20 years. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, James P. Linehan. She was the beloved mother of sons, John K. Linehan (Tomoko), Daniel C. Linehan, and the late Michael J. Linehan. She was the cherished grandma of Ashley, Jimmy, and Aidan Linehan. She is also survived by her siblings, Judy McDonald (the late Jack), Peter (the late Honey), Donald (Eileen), Dennis (Mila), and Gerard O'Connor. In Penny's memory, donations can be made to the Fairleigh Dickinson University Penny Linehan Scholarship Fund, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Development Office, 1000 River Rd., Teaneck, N.J. 07666. The donations will be used to fund teacher training scholarships at the New Jersey Children's Dyslexia Centers.
