Mary V. White
WHITE Mary Virginia Nave, daughter of Lt. Col. John A. and Maude L. Nave died on Feb 14, 2017 at the Hospice Care Center at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. She was born on March 21, 1941 in Seattle, WA. Her father was a Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. She was the loving wife of Sidney N. White for 55 years and cherished mother of four daughters, Ann Marie Griffin (Michael), Patricia Calvert (Brian), Mary Kay Martin (Andrew) and Sally Schneider (Andrew). She is survived by her four daughters and sons-in-law, grandchildren Nathan and Will Brittain, Matthew Calvert, and Patrick and Maggie Schneider. In addition, she is survived by her sister Margaret and brother John, along with many nieces and nephews. The daughter of a career Army pilot, Mary graduated from Stuttgart American High School and studied Spanish at the University of Barcelona. She finished her education at the University of Kentucky, earning a Master's Degree in Special Education. Mary taught for 22 years at North Middletown Elementary in Bourbon County. She was actively involved in the Council for Exceptional Children, serving in many roles, including State President. After retiring from North Middletown, she served on the board of Arbor Youth Services here in Lexington and was a volunteer for Kentucky Refugee Ministries. Mary was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and an elder. She was a lifetime member of Presbyterian Women and served as their President. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Lexington at 3pm on Mon, Feb 20. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 1pm and a reception immediately following.
